Clean Air Day at The Bargate

Thursday 18 June 2026
13:30 to 17:30

Clean Air Day is coming to Southampton – join us on 18 June

Southampton will be marking Clean Air Day on Thursday 18 June, with a free public event at The Bargate and lots of ways for residents to get involved.

Clean Air Day is the UK’s largest annual air pollution awareness campaign. It aims to raise awareness of how air pollution affects our health and encourage simple actions that can help reduce pollution – such as walking or cycling short journeys, using public transport, and switching off engines when parked.

Clean Air Day at The Bargate

On Thursday 18 June, from 1.30pm, everyone is welcome to come along to The Bargate to:

  • meet organisations including My Journey, Mums for Lungs, The Environment Centre, University of Southampton and Tranquil City
  • take part in interactive activities and games
  • try a VOI e‑bike or e‑scooter
  • get a free bike check
  • hop on a BlueStar bus and learn more about cleaner travel options

Residents are encouraged to use the Council’s clean air route mapping tool (https://www.sotonairmap.com/), which helps people choose routes with lower air pollution when walking or cycling around the city.

Look out for more Clean Air Day promotion across the city in the run‑up to 18 June, where discount codes for sustainable travel will be announced!
