Southampton Old Cemetery – Mid Summer Insects
Time: 2:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m.
An exploration of the rich insect life in the old cemetery. If it is sunny or bright we should see many and various pollinating insects, including bees, bumble bees, hoverflies and other diurnal fly species, grasshoppers, crickets, day-flying moths, and butterflies. If cloudier we will concentrate more on what insects, spiders, and other invertebrates we can coax out of the trees, shrubs, and grassland, these will include shield-bugs, bush-crickets, coneheads and ladybirds. There should be plenty of other high summer wildlife to see including a range of flora and maybe early fungi. Magnifying lenses or binoculars may be useful. Please bring appropriate clothing and stout footwear.
