Hate and Heat film event
Tuesday 11 November 2025
18:30 to 22:00
It's been a long, hot summer. Angry protests outside hotels and on our capital’s streets followed the UK's hottest summer on record. The links between rising political and ambient temperatures go deep. Southampton Stand Up To Racism and Southampton Climate Action Network in collaboration with MAST invite you to explore these links in this film double-bill.
Fires & Fascism is a new documentary that exposes the connection between the increasing wildfires of Europe with past fascism, big business, organised crime, and the rise of the far right today. Plan Z answers the question “how bad does it have to get before scientists start breaking the law?” by probing the motivations of a group of activists who take action against a government building.
Hate and Heat showcases how communities are engaging in direct action, protest and rewilding, in response to the rise of temperatures and the far right. We follow the films with a question and answer session and informal discussion about how, in Southampton, do we address the rise of fascism in an increasingly volatile world, and how do we address climate and nature breakdown in an increasingly divided society?
